The world we live in constantly tells us that in order to live a “happy” life we need this, that, and the other. It’s hard to be content now days. Even though we have been abundantly blessed by God, somehow we miss the blessings and desire the things we don’t have.
“Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.”
– 1 Timothy 6:6-7
The Bible, however, teaches us to be content. We came into this world with nothing and we cannot take anything with us when we die. The truth is we ought to be content with what we have because it’s all a gift from God.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
We should be so grateful for all that the Lord has given us because we don’t deserve any of it. Most importantly, He gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. He gave us the opportunity to receive salvation in Him. What more could we possible ask Him for? What more could we need?
The Lord loves us so deeply. He meets each and every need. Knowing this, our response must be one of thanksgiving. We must ask Him to give us content hearts. May this be a reminder and encouragement to all of us today.
